Prediction Sure to Come True

Do you have a flying car?  How about a hoverboard?

Yeah, one of the big stories of 2015 was Back to the Future Day - the day in the movie Back to the Future 2 when Marty and Doc went into the future.  Leading up to the day, you could view any number of videos or stories about what the movie got right and what it got wrong.

Obviously, no one is flying in a car.  Hoverboards don't really exist.  And, the Cubs didn't win the World Series.  So, they got a few things wrong.

However, it's amazing how much they got right.  Video conferencing, wall-mounted televisions, and 80s nostalgia were all real things in our current day and age.  And while Jaws didn't produce double-digit sequels, 3D movies are bigger than ever.

Now that we're approaching 2016, we're going to start hearing predictions for the upcoming year. We'll hear about Presidential elections, economic forecasts, upcoming movies and even anticipated weather.  A lot of these predictions will be wrong, as most predictions are.  A few might even be true.

However, we can be certain about the predictions found in the Bible.  Prediction is not an accurate term. The prophets didn't predict anything.  They gave prophecy, which is God speaking through them, often foretelling and warning people of what was to come.  Prophets served as the watchmen for Israel and were tasked with forewarning the Hebrews of things to come.  As such, they didn't predict anything, but warned them based on God's revelation to them.

In Isaiah 9:1-7, the prophet Isaiah gives some pretty specific prophecy concerning the Messiah. Not only will he come rule, but he will be fully God and fully man.  He will bring peace and comfort. He will rule justly. He will bring an end to war and strife. He will reign forever.

Make no mistake:  Isaiah was foretelling of the coming of Jesus Christ. Jesus, who was fully God and fully man, died for the sin of everyone though he himself never sinned.  One day, just as Isaiah predicted, he will come back and rule the world.  Then, and only then, will we truly have peace.

It is the one prediction sure to come true.  Why?  It comes from the Lord.  He revealed it. Isaiah recorded it. We can read it.  Jesus came.  He will come again.

Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus.  However, we must also be expecting the return of Jesus.  It was predicted.  It will come true.
